Long Term Care Insurance is not Medical Insurance. Long Term Care Insurance is purchased in anticipation of the distant future need for assistance as the result of an accident, illness, or aging. Long Term Care Insurance begins when you are unable to perform two of the (ADL's) Activity of Daily Living: Eating, Bathing, Dressing, Transferring, Grooming, or Toileting.
This insurance allows you to purchase a "pool of money" that you may use for a Personal Care Assistant or Companion to run errands, cook, and clean, a Home Health Aide for personal care such as bathing and dressing, Adult Day Care, Home Modification, Caregivers Nursing Home, or an Assisted Daily Living Facility.
